Vase wine bottle
French Upcycling. Vases from Wine Bottles.
What began two years ago in a Parisian apartment as a fixed idea among friends is now a success story. The two Frenchmen Emeric Cruchant Fleuriau and Gauthier Decarne collect empty wine bottles and turn them into flower vases in various sizes. They want to give the bottles a kind of revival, as they describe it, and want to keep something from the carefree atmosphere of wine evenings in good company. The two have now entered into a partnership with restaurateurs in the Hauts-de-France region, the home of Decarne and collect more than 1,000 used wine bottles a week from the restaurants. The artisanal part of this venture works as follows: Thoroughly cleaned each bottle gets its neck “blasted off” and the residues cut off with special scissors. This process leaves the glass with sharp edges, and Fleuriau and Gauthier Decarne finally found a way to ground them clean and smooth. Depending on the shape of the wine bottle and the colour of the glass, the vases may have a slightly different look.
