Wall calendar Teemu Järvi 2024

The Finnish illustrator Teemu Järvi finds the motifs for his prints, postcards and calendars on forays through his beautiful homeland. In contrast to scientific depictions, his drawings of animals catch a brief moment of encounter and the deeper impression such an experience leaves behind in the human spectator. Järvi depicts both: the outer appearance of the animals and their essence. His sketches reveal a genuinely subjective point of view, but also a component of an inner reality of the animals that cannot be explained rationally without further ado. His drawings capture somewhat the character of the animals.
Järvi also opts for the elementary in his choice of drawing tools: He draws exclusively with black ink and self-made drawing pens, which he cuts from regional reed (not bamboo as other artists do). For him, the use of natural materials is an expression of his deep connection with Finnish nature. The Finish landscapes have been both a creative cosmos and a haven of peace for Järvi since childhood. As an adult city-dweller, he found it all the more important and valuable to keep this connection alive.
