It is shaped like a long shovel, but with a blade so long that it can be used to grasp and pry out even deep-reaching roots. The sharpened blade of our forged weeding trowel, notched at the tip, cuts through whatever comes in front of it, taking on even hard, compacted or heavily rooted soils. This hand tool demonstrates its versatility when caring for potted plants, as its narrow shape means it can also be used to loosen soil in containers and poke fertilizer holes. The weeding trowel comes from a tool smithy in Franconia.

With forging, the Krumpholz family knows its stuff. Based in the Franconian Forest, the ancestors acquired the first hammer mill of their own - the Guttenberg Hammer - in 1799 and produced tools and other everyday items from forged iron. Today, the company's fortunes are in the hands of the eighth generation. The garden tools that leave the production site, which is still in its old location but has long since been modernized and enlarged, are tools of the first order: shaped under the weight of the forge hammer to suit their area of use, compacted and reinforced where necessary, provided with sharpened edges or blades and fitted with high-quality handles made of ash wood. Free-form forging, as practiced at Krumpholz, requires special skill and a sense of proportion. The steel used, a Swedish steel with chrome-molybdenum content, is tough, strong and easy to clean.
