Wicker basket cube technique

This laundry basket has little in common with the cheaper competition offered by sales outfits at home and abroad. Good laundry baskets like these were being manufactured more than a 100 years ago with the so-called honeycomb technique, a double-layered wickerwork which features a high degree of stability and a smooth surface inside and out, plus wooden runners to protect the floors.
Weaving a basket starts with the base, in which the so-called spokes are inserted circularly. They are then bent upwards for a framework which is then woven in the honeycomb. Each basket is worked by hand without a form. Our baskets are manufactured by master craftsmen in the fourth generation who still weave and train new craftsmen with this cost intensive method.
