Human in animal form. To send
Wolf Erlbruch, born in 1948 and professor emeritus of illustration at the University of Wuppertal, is not only one of the most important German book artists, but also one of the most idiosyncratic. As the author and illustrator of numerous children's books, he has won many awards, including the "German Youth Literature Prize," and for many years he designed a children's room calendar for the Peter Hammer Verlag. He put masterful depictions of the all-too-human in animal form on the monthly pages. We offer a selection of motifs from his calendars of the last few years here as postcards (currently the safest means of communication, since its content, as one hears, is not systematically evaluated for once). Masterfully drawn animal figures are used to depict human weaknesses, strengths and virtues: from a cat practicing patience to a sporty pig joyfully performing a parcel jump (vulgo: ass bomb).
