Understated in appearance, impressive in material and cut—that’s how these high-waisted briefs present themselves. They’re made from a soft single jersey fabric crafted from skin-friendly, certified organic cotton. A small amount of spandex gives it greater flexibility and ensures that it retains its shape well even with frequent wear. The high-waisted band comfortably hugs the stomach and hips without constricting. The fabric is doubled at the front of the waistband, which provides extra support in the tummy area and cleverly conceals small bulges. A simply beautiful piece of underwear for everyday wear that stays in place even when you’re on the move—without pinching or digging in.

In the Swabian Alb, underwear and functional apparel are produced that are remarkable in many ways. First, there’s the name—which seems to refer to Italy but is actually an acronym standing for the merchant and farmer Conrad Maier. In 1884, he began knitting fabric in his own living room and marketed it throughout southern Germany. Since 1884, purchasing yarn at Comazo has been a “top priority,” because even the choice of yarns significantly determines the quality of the finished products. What has changed, however, is that Comazo became the first German lingerie company to be Fair Trade-licensed in early 2009 and now processes GOTS-certified materials. Tradition is also evident in the processing of the yarns: local knitting mills use circular knitting machines to produce the tubular fabric, which is then bleached and dyed in-house. And here, too, tradition is combined with innovation: Comazo monitors its own wastewater, pre-treats it, and then directs it to either the company’s own or the municipal wastewater treatment plant. At the headquarters, a heat recovery system has also been put into operation, which optimizes energy efficiency.

Cutting the fabric is done partly by hand with a tape knife and requires skill and concentration. After the necessary components are assembled, the garments are sewn in one of the company’s own sewing facilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Romania. In short: Comazo keeps a close eye on every step of production to ensure that the final product is underwear of consistently high quality that feels pleasantly soft against the skin.
