Set up bath and watering trough for birds

If the wild birds wintering in this country do not find enough food during frost and snow, or if you would like to observe the animals in your own garden, additional feeding is recommended. It is important to ensure the necessary hygiene to prevent the transmission of pathogens and to know the feeding habits of the different species.

Before the first birds start nesting and breeding in the garden, new nesting boxes should be hung up by the middle of the month at the latest, or the boxes that are already there should be cleaned. The settlement of many native songbirds in their own garden is - in addition to the pleasure of observation and singing -, of great benefit, as they are important helpers in the fight against pests: Especially for feeding their young, tits, sparrows, robins or finches catch large quantities of aphids and other insects, caterpillars, maggots and other larvae.
