You can actually hike anywhere, but we usually think of mountain hikes, perhaps because of the breathtaking views that the peaks you climb offer and in view of which everyday life and worries quickly fade away. However, you can get away from the daily grind anywhere - provided you are well equipped.

There is always something adventurous about organizing a picnic. The dining table and chair are swapped for a nice blanket, and instead of porcelain plates and cutlery, it's best to serve the treats from the basket straight to your hand. An herb has been grown to combat the longing for Italy. It smells wonderfully of vacations in the south and shows off its aromatic strengths to full effect in a homemade pesto: Basil! Use it lavishly as a spicy addition to panini with grilled tomatoes and eggplants as well as gently melted mozzarella from the Milantoast contact grill - and you'll feel like you're sitting on the Piazza del Duomo in Milan: the freshly prepared panino, still warm from the grill, in one hand and a chilled drink in the other.
