Klean Kanteen. The California Way to Reusability
The California-based family-owned company Klean Kanteen® offers clean alternatives to disposable cups and bottles with its stainless steel containers. What began as a water bottle has evolved over the past ten years into a wide range of containers for transporting food, made without aluminum or bisphenol A (BPA) but rather from taste- and odor-neutral stainless steel. Unlike aluminum and plastic, stainless steel is an inert material that does not react chemically with food nor release particles. Containers made from it are extremely sturdy and durable, and they also feature a design that is both functional and visually appealing.
Klean Kanteen® has its products manufactured in China and regularly inspects the production facilities there to ensure compliance with Klean Kanteen®’s standards and work guidelines. As a member of “1% for the Planet,” Klean Kanteen® donates at least one percent of its revenue to environmental protection projects or educational initiatives run by nonprofit organizations. In early 2020, the company joined the nonprofit organization “Climate Neutral.” The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions company-wide to a minimum. Even simple measures such as using green electricity, holding video conferences instead of business trips, and implementing reusable solutions in the cafeteria can help achieve this. One step that is visible to customers is the elimination of packaging.
Not all steel is the same
Klean Kanteen® uses only 18/8 stainless steel, and in a thicker gauge at that, which makes Klean Kanteen® products significantly more durable than many other stainless steel containers. So they can withstand quite a bit, yet are still light enough for use on the go. The threads are also made largely of stainless steel, which contributes to the containers’ durability. The bottle caps are equipped with silicone seals, similar to those used in medical technology.
Rounded corners. Wide thread
To ensure the bottles last a long time, they also need to be easy to clean. That’s why Klean Kanteen® manufactures them with rounded “corners” and smooth, wide threads. The interior surface is electropolished and so smooth that dirt doesn’t stick easily. And if something does happen to dry on the inside, the wide openings make even the innermost areas easily accessible. With the exception of the vacuum-insulated bottles, the stainless steel bottles are dishwasher-safe. Please wash the double-walled containers by hand only, as the large temperature fluctuations in the dishwasher mean the vacuum cannot be permanently guaranteed, and the coating will not withstand dishwasher use.
